Throwback Thursday Review: Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey

Dragonswood (Wilde Island Chronicles, #2)Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Interesting YA book that hooked me with the mention of dragons. I enjoyed the characters, especially Tess and Bash but would have liked to see the author go deeper into their characters. While reading I felt the author only touched the surface of the characters and could have fleshed them out more and in doing so would have made this a solid unforgettable YA book.

I really do recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick fantastical YA read. This book only took me six hours to get through.

Enchanted, Inc Series by Shanna Swendson

Damsel Under Stress (Enchanted, Inc., #3)Damsel Under Stress by Shanna Swendson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I came across the Enchanted Inc. series by Shanna Swendson because the title was really cute and I was looking for a fairy tale-esque story.

Swendson’s Enchanted, Inc. series is a cute, light and fun magical romance series that follows Katie Chandler who is immune to magic. Her immunity makes her an asset to the corporation that maintains order in the magical community. Add in a blushing hottie named Owen, the one and only Merlin as your boss and an evil former employee who really isn’t evil, and chaos is sure to follow.
As I am only three books into the series, I gave Damsel Under Stress a 3.5 out of 5.

This book is a fun light read, but I kept wanting more. Reading scenes that were funny I smiled but never laughed and in the more serious scenes there still was always a lightness to them. The mood in Damsel Under Stress and the previous books always stays in a happy medium and because of this stable mood throughout the books I was always left wanting more and not necessarily in a good way.

I do recommend the Enchanted, Inc. series to anyone looking for a light magical romance story! I quickly consumed the first two books,Enchanted, Inc. and Once Upon Stilettos! If you’re a quick reader you will have no problem consuming at least the first two books in one day. I will definitely be finishing this series!

Throwback Thursday Review: Lux Series by Jennifer Armentrout

Opposition (Lux, #5)Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout blew my mind! I stumbled across the series on a Friday with intentions of only reading the first page to see if it’s something I’d put on my tbr list. By Monday morning I had read the entire series and spent the weekend in my pajamas, overdosed on coffee. Halfway through the first book I thought, “this is Roswell meets Twilight but better.” By the second book, I knew I had to finish Katy and Daemons story! There was no putting down these books until I finished and I am so glad that I did.
Armentrout delivers a fascinating story with great character development where the girl doesn’t straight away fall for the hot alien next door. In the Lux series you never know who’s going to stay alive and that just adds to the mystery behind the Luxens and the secret government branch that keeps them in check.
A great series to check out and easy to read, I recommend to everyone!

Throwback Thursday Review: Wedding Girl by Stacey Ballis

Wedding GirlWedding Girl by Stacey Ballis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great chic lit book with mouth-watering recipes! This is a light chic lit book that’s a fast read and best for a rainy Sunday. I liked the pace of the book, but felt left out of the main characters thought process sometimes because of the authors writing style.

There were one or two events in the book where the reader could have gotten a closer look into Sophie’s character if it were written out and not explained in past tense. This would’ve developed Sophie more, made her more tangible and closer to the reader.

Throwback Thursday Review: The Shattered Court by M.J. Scott

The Shattered Court (The Four Arts, #1)The Shattered Court by M.J. Scott

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved reading The Shattered Court! This book has been on my to-read list and I finally picked it up during my last trip to the library. For some reason I thought this was a YA novel, so at first the description didn’t have me as excited as if it wasn’t a YA novel. I’m just glad I picked this book up!

I have to say I loved the characters and the dynamic between Sophia and Cameron. The only thing I wish this book had is a map! Seriously, a map would have helped when reading about Anglion, the traveling that takes place and Illvya. Keeping a mental map while reading about these different places, especially with the type of travel done, is not the best. I think a map would have also helped with the world building in this novel. We don’t get to see much of this world that M.J. Scott has created and that sucks. Whether the world building just wasn’t the greatest or Scott did this intentionally to make the reader just as ignorant of the world outside Anglion as the characters, I don’t know. In my opinion, I hope it’s the latter. I will be following this series and can’t wait for book 2!

The Syrena Legacy by Anna Banks

Of Neptune (The Syrena Legacy, #3)Of Neptune by Anna Banks

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First things first, I’m a sucker for mermaid stories. I can’t help it! If there’s a book about mermaids or underwater life then I have to give it a shot and the Syrena Legacy by Anna Banks is one of the better underwater/mermaid series I’ve read. I wish there were more books about mermaids that weren’t YA. Don’t get me wrong, I love YA books but I have yet to find a book about mermaids that leaves me thinking about it weeks later. So with that said, Banks does a pretty good job with her YA Syrena Legacy series. I’d recommend this series to anyone looking for a good underwater romance series to sink their teeth into!
